Salads are always refreshing for any meal. What better than crunchy Cabbage! This is my mom’s recipe. We temper this salad with coconut oil, mustard seeds, curry leaves and dry red chillies. This tadka or tempering makes the salad a complete desi/Indian delicacy. It is a coleslaw minus mayonnaise plus tadka😂 We love it as a side and end up eating quite a lot!!
I make sure to have this salad as part of our lunch when the cabbage is fresh. I am never able to finish a whole cabbage in less than a week. And by then, the cabbage is not as crunchy as it would be in the first 1 or 2 days. Try this cabbage salad friends, it is as easy as a salad can get!!
Ingredients:
Chopped cabbage – 2 cups
Chopped onions and tomatoes – 1 cup
Cilantro – 3-4 sprigs
Salt
Lemon juice – 1 tsp
For tempering:
Coconut oil (or any oil) – 1 tbsp
Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
Curry leaves – 6
Dry red chillies – 2 broken into pieces
How I prepare:
  1. Mix chopped cabbage, onion, tomato, cilantro, salt, lemon juice.
  2. Heat the oil, add mustard seeds and allow to splutter, then add curry leaves and dry red chillis. Pour the tempering to the salad.
  3. Serve as a side.
